About The Position

Calling all finance-minded students! Are you interested in commercial lending and ready to turn classroom knowledge into real-world experience? Become a Business Loan Credit Analyst Intern at Royal Credit Union! In this role, you’ll analyze financial information, support credit decisions, and gain hands-on exposure to commercial lending and risk assessment alongside experienced professionals. All applicants must be located in the Chippewa Valley Area & include resume, cover letter, transcript and their anticipated graduation date when applying. If selected for the internship, you must be able to commit to the full 12 months and be enrolled at a university throughout the length of the internship. Must be able to work onsite at the Royal Credit Union Corporate Center in Eau Claire, WI, throughout the school year and during breaks.

Requirements

• Enrolled at a University or Technical College throughout the length of the internship, pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Agricultural Business, Banking, or a related field of study.
• Interest in commercial lending, finance, or credit analysis, along with a basic understanding of financial statements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with close attention to detail and a consistent commitment to accuracy when reviewing financial and supporting information.
• Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prioritize workload and work both independently and collaboratively.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of Member and organizational information.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, plus the ability to readily learn new technologies and systems while demonstrating a willingness to learn.

• Previous work experience in a customer service, office, banking, accounting, or finance-related environment.

Responsibilities

• Provides support to the Credit and Business Loan Departments while gaining practical experience in commercial lending, credit analysis, financial statement review, and risk assessment.
• Assists with a variety of analytical, administrative, and lending support functions, including reviewing borrower financial monitoring submissions for accuracy and completeness, spreading financial statements, and other special projects as assigned.
• Develops an understanding of commercial lending principles, financial analysis, credit risk management, and Royal Credit Union's lending philosophy, processes, and practices through hands-on experience and mentorship.
• Assists with credit analysis, underwriting, and portfolio monitoring by reviewing borrower financial information, loan applications, tax returns, bank statements, and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Completes financial statement spreading, cash flow analysis, covenant testing, and related financial reviews.
• Researches borrowers, industries, market trends, and peer performance to support underwriting and risk assessment.
• Prepares and organizes credit presentations, annual reviews, renewals, loan reviews, third-party reports, and other underwriting documentation while ensuring information is accurate, consistent, confidential, and aligned with department standards.
