About The Position

The Business Intelligence Analyst III / IV designs, develops, and supports enterprise business intelligence and visual analytics solutions that enable data-driven decision-making. The role transforms complex data into reports, dashboards, semantic models, and analytical solutions that support operational and strategic outcomes. It partners with business stakeholders, technology teams, and data engineering partners to deliver scalable visual reporting, establish semantic modeling standards, and translate advanced analyses into recommendations. Microsoft Power BI is the primary BI platform, with Apache Superset or other visualization tools used when appropriate. As part of an agile team, the associate contributes to solution design, development, testing, deployment, optimization, production support, report certification, and modernization of enterprise reporting assets. The position focuses on business intelligence and visual analytics rather than primary ownership of source-data engineering or Power BI tenant administration. At level III, the analyst designs end-to-end BI solutions, applies advanced analytical and statistical techniques, works independently with minimal guidance, leads solution components, and provides technical guidance to peers. At level IV, the analyst leads complex, reusable BI solutions and cross-functional initiatives, establishes standards, reviews designs, influences architecture and tooling decisions, and mentors analysts and developers.

Requirements

  • Advanced experience designing, developing, deploying, and supporting BI solutions using Microsoft Power BI or comparable enterprise visualization platforms.
  • Strong proficiency with DAX, semantic modeling, dimensional modeling, Power Query, data visualization, and enterprise BI architecture.
  • Experience publishing and supporting Power BI solutions through Workspaces, Apps, Deployment Pipelines, and semantic model refresh processes.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge, including writing, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex queries for reporting and analytics.
  • Ability to translate complex technical and analytical concepts for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an agile delivery environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver reliable solutions with minimal guidance.
  • Business Intelligence Analyst III: 4–7 years of relevant business intelligence, analytics, reporting, semantic modeling, or data visualization experience.
  • Business Intelligence Analyst IV: 7–10 years of relevant business intelligence, analytics, reporting, semantic modeling, or data visualization experience.
  • Experience developing enterprise dashboards, reports, semantic models, and visual analytics solutions.
  • Experience partnering with stakeholders to define business questions, gather requirements, assess findings, and deliver actionable reporting solutions.
  • Experience working with enterprise data platforms and large-scale datasets.

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300).
  • Microsoft Power BI administration certification or equivalent demonstrated knowledge of Power BI administration concepts.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric features such as Lakehouses, Warehouses, Dataflows Gen2, Data Pipelines, Notebooks, and Real-Time Intelligence.
  • Experience using Snowflake as a primary enterprise data source for reporting and analytics.
  • Experience with Apache Superset or other BI and visualization platforms, and ability to select the appropriate visual tool for the business use case.
  • Experience developing or supporting Apache Airflow workflows.
  • Experience with Power BI Project (PBIP) formats and collaborative development of Power BI assets.
  • Experience using Git-based version control, including branching, pull requests, code reviews, and collaborative development workflows.
  • Knowledge of Power BI administration and architecture concepts, including capacity management, storage modes, licensing, workspaces, tenant considerations, governance, and performance optimization.
  • Understanding of performance and capacity considerations involving DirectQuery, Import mode, composite models, incremental refresh, and Row-Level Security (RLS).
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar platforms to generate or refine scripts, troubleshoot solutions, create documentation, support testing, and accelerate analytics delivery.
  • Working knowledge of Python, scripting, or related programming concepts, particularly reviewing, validating, and applying AI-generated code.
  • Experience supporting report certification, semantic modeling standards, and reporting modernization initiatives.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps or a comparable agile work management and delivery platform.
  • Property and Casualty insurance, claims analytics, finance analytics, or enterprise reporting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end BI solutions, including semantic and metric layers, dimensional data models, reports, dashboards, scorecards, and visual analytics products.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize Power BI semantic models, reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions using DAX, Power Query, and enterprise reporting standards.
  • Apply advanced analytical and statistical techniques to identify trends, performance drivers, customer behaviors, and opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Translate descriptive reporting into diagnostic insight and introduce predictive approaches where appropriate to the business question and available data.
  • Partner with stakeholders to frame analytical questions, evaluate findings, and translate complex analyses into clear recommendations.
  • Establish, document, and promote semantic modeling standards, reusable design patterns, visualization standards, and reporting best practices.
  • Support report certification by validating solution quality, consistency, usability, maintainability, performance, documentation, and adherence to established standards.
  • Publish and support Power BI solutions through Power BI Service, including Workspaces, Apps, Deployment Pipelines, and semantic model refresh processes.
  • Optimize report and semantic model performance, refresh reliability, storage-mode selection, and user experience across BI platforms.
  • Assess downstream impacts of design choices involving Import, DirectQuery, composite models, Row-Level Security, refresh strategies, and available Power BI capacity.
  • Evaluate visualization technologies and select Power BI, Apache Superset, or other tools based on business need, scalability, maintainability, and user experience.
  • Use Snowflake and other approved enterprise data sources to deliver reliable, scalable reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Coordinate with data engineering and technology partners to ensure source data is available, reliable, understandable, and usable for reporting.
  • Document report definitions, calculations, assumptions, semantic models, technical designs, and support procedures.
  • Lead reporting-process improvements, including automation of recurring outputs and reduction of manual effort.
  • Support report migration and modernization, including converting legacy reporting solutions to modern BI platforms and reusable semantic model architectures.
  • Perform testing, validation, deployment, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, performance tuning, and post-implementation support.
  • Participate in agile planning, backlog refinement, estimation, status reporting, and cross-functional delivery coordination.
  • Provide technical guidance through design, DAX, query, and solution reviews.
  • At level IV, serve as technical lead for complex reporting and analytics initiatives, lead cross-team projects, review technical designs, and mentor analysts and developers across levels.
