About The Position

McCarthy Tétrault is a Canadian law firm seeking a Business Development Manager for its Toronto office. This role is a 15-month contract position. The successful candidate will act as the Clients & Markets (C&M) Lead for assigned Industry Groups, Practice Groups, and/or Strategic Issues Groups, as well as select Priority Clients. They will assist key stakeholders in strategizing and executing marketing and business development efforts. Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience, preferably in a legal or professional services firm.
  • Strategic, out-of-the-box thinker able to proactively devise new growth ideas.
  • Strong communication and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines while completing designated tasks in a systematic and logical way.
  • Driven to produce high-quality deliverables and deliver top-notch client service with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and accommodate rush requests.
  • Strong business writing skills.
  • Familiarity with project management and process improvement principles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement integrated marketing and business development plans and go-to-market strategies for assigned Industry Groups to win new mandates.
  • Leverage firm best practices for target identification and pursuit.
  • Recommend and execute tactics for increasing market profile.
  • Collaborate with Marketing Communications and Events teams on campaigns.
  • Recommend approaches to build client relationships.
  • Develop and implement integrated marketing and business development plans for assigned Priority Clients to deepen relationships and cross-sell services.
  • Develop and implement integrated marketing and business development plans for assigned Strategic Issues Groups to deepen relationships and cross-sell services.
  • Compile, review, and analyze market, industry, and legal intelligence to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Develop strategies to help lawyers build profile internally and in the market.
  • Provide recommendations, guidance, and project management for marketing and business development initiatives, including sponsorships, awards, and legal directories.
  • Collaborate with the Proposals team and lawyers to support RFP, proposals, and pitch opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and input to the Proposals team, reviewing drafts and offering strategic insights.
  • Provide strategic advice and coaching to lawyers for client presentations.
  • Guide and input client requests for reporting on the firm’s value and offerings.
  • Support other marketing and business development initiatives, collaborating with Events and Communications teams.
  • Collaborate with lawyers to develop annual budgets for assigned industry groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
