About The Position

The Business Development Manager will serve as a liaison to the Global Finance Practice. They will work directly with the practice group leaders and other partners to develop and execute clear strategies and business plans, and manage an aligned range of business development and marketing initiatives. The role involves fostering cross-selling by learning about practices and developing internal knowledge about clients and business. The manager will also participate in hiring, managing, and developing junior team members, overseeing daily operations, reviewing staff work, and managing professional development through goal setting, coaching, and training, including performance appraisals and feedback.

Requirements

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of professional marketing, business development, or other relevant experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in marketing, communication, business/finance, or related field.
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional marketing or business development experience and/or strategic planning, sales, market assessment, or positioning in a law firm or other professional services organization.
  • Experience and knowledge of the business/legal landscape in securitization and leveraged finance.
  • Supervisory, managerial, and/or project management experience.
  • M.B.A. or J.D. a considerable plus.
  • Working knowledge of customer relationship, pipeline, and experience management databases such as InterAction, OnePlace, and/or Foundation.
  • Familiarity with company/market research tools and league tables such as CapitalIQ, Mergermarket, Bloomberg, Refinitiv, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison to the Global Finance Practice, working with practice group leaders and partners to develop and execute strategies and business plans.
  • Manage business development and marketing initiatives, including securing panel and other appointments through proposals/pitches.
  • Maintain business development and marketing collateral for the group, including experience databases.
  • Monitor progress against planned priorities with practice leaders.
  • Prepare and supervise directory submissions, awards, and other profile-raising activities.
  • Develop strategies for participation in or planning of major client programs.
  • Foster cross-selling by developing internal knowledge about clients and business.
  • Consult with practice/industry leaders and partners on marketing and client development plans.
  • Attend and contribute to practice/industry group meetings and planning sessions.
  • Track and analyze practice initiatives, their impact on the budget, and evaluate ROI.
  • Identify and recommend business development opportunities and trends using data analytics, competitive intelligence, and market analyses.
  • Evaluate business prospects and cross-marketing efforts, making recommendations to leaders.
  • Manage and refine business development infrastructure processes and procedures (collateral, experience databases, contact lists, opportunity tracking).
  • Ensure quality control for marketing collateral, communications, and thought leadership content.
  • Coordinate with the Market Intelligence team for industry and client research.
  • Facilitate the planning, implementation, and follow-up of new business or cross-marketing opportunities.
  • Serve as lead project manager for RFPs and pitches.
  • Write new business proposals and respond to RFIs/RFPs.
  • Advise pitch teams in preparation and rehearsal.
  • Support follow-up and debrief activities post-pitch.
  • Lead preparation of submissions for practice/industry rankings, awards, surveys, league tables, and other ratings.
  • Work with Regional Marketing teams to shape hosted or sponsored programs and events.
  • Coordinate with the Communications team on PR opportunities.
  • Recommend and facilitate lawyer involvement in professional organizations to enhance visibility.
  • Assist with practice/industry team meeting planning, including agendas and content development.
  • Assist with coordinating budgets.
  • Support agenda development and coordination of Business Development and Marketing team meetings.
  • Participate in hiring, managing, and developing junior team members.
  • Oversee daily operations and review staff work.
  • Manage professional development of staff, including goal setting, coaching, and training.
  • Prepare annual performance appraisals and provide timely feedback.
