Reporting to the President, the Business Development Executive is responsible for the development and execution of the business development strategy and sales plans for Util-Assist. The successful candidate will lead a team of business development professionals in the establishment of annual sales targets, account plans, and go-to-market strategies to achieve corporate revenue growth objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or related field; MBA considered an asset
  • Minimum 10+ years of sales and business development leadership experience within the utility industry
  • Proven success driving revenue growth, market expansion, and strategic partnerships
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing sales teams
  • Strong background in enterprise sales, account planning, and revenue forecasting
  • Experience with formal sales methodologies and CRM platforms
  • Established network within the Canadian utility sector
  • Experience managing complex sales pursuits, negotiations, and contract execution
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required
  • Strong knowledge of sales strategy, business development, and account management
  • Deep understanding of the Canadian utility industry and market trends
  • Experience with sales methodologies, pipeline management, account planning, and revenue forecasting
  • Advanced ability to develop sales and marketing strategies in a technology and professional services environment
  • Advanced leadership and team management skills
  • Expert negotiation, contract development, and proposal writing skills
  • Expert pricing, quote development, and commercial strategy skills
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including budgeting and forecasting
  • Advanced MS Office and presentation skills
  • Experience with CRM systems, sales analytics, and reporting tools
  • Knowledge of utility modernization, AMI, and digital transformation initiatives is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Define overall strategy for sales, lead generation and go-to-market partnerships and develop short and long-term plans and targets to reach growth and profitability goals.
  • Create and implement business and market strategy for new and existing services to create effective market growth strategies.
  • Establish, manage and review the full cycle sales process to drive revenue, grow the business and drive opportunities through sales stages more effectively and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with finance to establish rate carts and pricing for services offered.
  • Implement and maintain a corporate CRM to manage the sales pipeline and leads.
  • Understand the target market, market trends, new technology, customer business issues and the competitive environment.
  • Build, nurture and establish formal agreements with key go-to-market partners to sell joint solutions.
  • Guide external communications to the market across all channels and build brand awareness for Util-Assist products and services.
  • Track competitive market share, win/loss data and fully understand competitive selling strategies.
  • Represent the organization in customer negotiations, trade shows, seminars and conferences.
  • Ensure a strong understanding of the marketplace dynamics, including competitive and customer trends.
  • Build and manage the department’s annual budget and business plan and provide regular reporting regarding sales and marketing objectives to the executive.
  • Ensure that the sales funnel and pipeline development is in line with industry standards and best practices for technology-based solutions.
  • Provide people leadership and direction to direct reports through coaching, development, performance management and resource planning.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection process and provide orientation and guidance for all new hires within the Business Development organization.
  • Provide leadership to direct reports to ensure they exceed and are accountable for key performance objectives in terms of sales, profitability and pipeline development.
