About The Position

The Associate, Marketplace Business Development executes an ongoing category development and growth strategy for Macy’s online Marketplace. In partnership with Macy’s Merchandising and other collaborators, this associate researches market trends, identifies whitespace opportunities that support Macy’s curated category ambitions, and sources high-quality brands and sellers to join Macy’s Marketplace. Additionally, this role identifies and executes strategies to increase the exposure and growth of the category, such as site merchandising and marketing initiatives.

Requirements

  • Market Research: Ability to research market trends, including categories, styles, brands, and SKUs, and identify whitespace opportunities to support Macy’s curated category ambitions.
  • Sourcing Strategy: Capacity to build a sourcing strategy that involves discovering and identifying high-quality brands and sellers to meet category assortment strategies.
  • Seller Recruitment: Ability to recruit high-priority sellers and continuously improve the process for Marketplace seller acquisition.
  • Communication and Negotiation: Excellent communication, sales, and facilitation skills to educate sellers on Marketplace platform requirements, negotiate contract terms, and effectively communicate complex information tailored to various audiences.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Customer-centric mindset and experience with cross-functional collaboration.
  • Problem-solving Skills: Ability to solve problems with internal and external stakeholders and thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Project Management: Ability to juggle multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and communicate informative updates to team members. Desire to take project ownership.
  • Creativity and Strategic Thinking: Ability to think creatively, strategically, and technically.

  • Previous experience launching and/or scaling an online marketplace is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Research market trends (categories, styles, brands, SKUs) and identify opportunities for Macy’s to fill whitespace gaps through the Marketplace model.
  • Partner closely with the Merchant organization to translate merchant ambitions and market insights into executable category, curation, and merchandising strategy for our Marketplace.
  • Build a sourcing strategy that includes discovering and identifying high-quality brands and sellers to meet category assortment strategies.
  • Recruit high-priority sellers and continuously improve the process for Marketplace seller acquisition.
  • Educate sellers on Marketplace platform requirements and negotiate contract terms.
  • Drive growth strategy and plan, staying informed about competitors and ensuring Macy’s remains at the forefront of marketplace strategy.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Macy’s brand and customers to ensure the marketplace reflects appropriately.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
