About The Position

Traffic Control & Engineering is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Bus Stop Management Supervisor. The chosen candidate will be responsible for overseeing the comprehensive operations involving the preparation, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control devices, including traffic signs, bus stop informational signs, citywide bus stop regulation signs, structures, and their supports. Key responsibilities include supervising and training the staff in all aspects of warehousing, production, installation, repair, and maintenance tasks. Administrative duties entail maintaining an inventory control system, managing absence control calendars, evaluating staff performance, and implementing improvements in operational procedures. The supervisor will also maintain the physical upkeep of all work locations and warehouse areas, enforce strict compliance with all agency safety rules and regulations to ensure a secure working environment, and promote the correct usage of safety equipment and gear. Furthermore, the role encompasses performing field observations and audits, coordinating daily work assignments, closing out completed work, managing personnel, operating a motor vehicle, and participating in strategic meetings. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively and inclusively, fostering professional growth and maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders. Requirements

  • Must be serving permanently in the Supervisor of Traffic Device Maintainer title, or be reachable on DOT's promotion list.
  • At least two years of experience as a Traffic Device Maintainer working for the NYC Department of Transportation; or
  • Three years of recent, satisfactory, full-time experience maintaining, servicing and repairing mechanical equipment or experience of a nature similar to the duties described above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • For appointment to certain positions, a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) valid in the State of New York, with no restrictions, is required. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • New hires must reside in NYC for the first two years of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word, with strong overall computer skills.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing the Department of Transportation’s Sign Information Management System (SIMS).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
