About The Position

The Bus Operations Control Center (BOCC) Supervisor/Controller is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the public transit bus system from a centralized control center. This role involves real-time monitoring of bus routes, managing service disruptions, responding to emergencies, and ensuring that service runs efficiently and according to schedule. The BOCC Supervisor/Controller communicates with bus operators, maintenance teams, and supervisors to ensure a smooth, safe, and timely operation of the transit system.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of experience in transportation operations, public transit, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in a control center, dispatch, or logistics coordination role is highly desirable.
  • Ability to confidently use standard technology (i.e. Microsoft Office) and other transportation systems and software.
  • Currently possess CDL with Passenger endorsement or able to achieve during the six (6) month probationary period.
  • Able to work as needed during training to ensure ability to perform all job responsibilities.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays following training.

Responsibilities

  • Use dispatch systems, GPS tracking, and communication tools to monitor real-time bus locations and schedules.
  • Track and ensure on-time performance of bus routes, identifying and responding to delays or schedule deviations.
  • Address service disruptions, including traffic issues, accidents, breakdowns, or other unforeseen events.
  • Develop and communicate alternate routing plans when needed to maintain service.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and road supervisors to resolve operational issues.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for bus operators, providing instructions and updates regarding schedule adjustments, route changes, and emergency situations.
  • Write summary driver reports of situations and incidents, take live notes and then edit to an understandable summary of incident and response taken.
  • Coordinate with other transit departments, including rail or other transportation modes, to ensure integration and consistency across services.
  • Notify customers and staff of delays, detours, and disruptions through automated systems and other communication channels.
  • Respond to accidents, breakdowns, or emergency situations with timely and clear directives.
  • Coordinate with first responders, internal emergency teams, and relevant stakeholders to ensure safety and rapid resolution of incidents.
  • Record and document incidents, preparing reports for management review.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time performance, service reliability, and passenger complaints.
  • Generate reports on operational performance, incident responses, and service disruptions.
  • Analyze operational data to recommend improvements and enhance service delivery.
  • Ensure all operations comply with safety regulations and transit policies.
  • Monitor bus operators' adherence to schedules, safety protocols, and communication standards.
  • Report and document any violations, unsafe conditions, or procedural breaches.
