About The Position

The position of the Bus Monitor for the 0-5 Head Start program is responsible for maintaining compliance and safely transporting children to and from the Head Start Program on a daily basis.

Requirements

• Must be 19 years of age.
• Able to work with children, staff, parents and others.
• Must meet DCFS requirements which includes a background check.
• Must be able to pass a medical exam certifying freedom form communicable diseases and illegal substances.
• Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• Must be willing to work a split shift.
• Must be able to obtain a CPR Certification and First Aid Certification.

Responsibilities

• Sign in/out when arriving and departing Head Start Sites.
• Assisting children to load and unload the School Bus.
• Ensuring all children are completely secure in child safety restraints after the child sits down on the School Bus.
• Ensuring release of children only to a person over the age of 16 that is on the approved contact list for that child by checking a Photo ID for the person.
• Assisting the School Bus Driver in notifying parents of pertinent information by aiding in distributing fliers, notices, etc.
• Assisting in maintaining accurate records on children that are riding the Bus that they are a monitor on.
• Assisting children, if need be, to or from their pick-up or drop-off address.
• Completing a full walk through of the entire School Bus before exiting the School Bus following the route.
• Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
