Bus Mechanic Level A/B
About The Position
Academy Bus is seeking a full-time Class A/B Diesel Mechanic with hands-on supervisory skills for its Clearwater, Florida location. The position starts at $28.00 per hour, with pay based on experience, and offers a $2,500 sign-on bonus. The shift is 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The mechanic repairs and maintains modern tour buses, performs inspections and road tests, responds to road calls, documents warranty and repair work, and diagnoses, installs, removes, and cleans a range of vehicle components. Class B mechanics assist Class A mechanics with skilled work and train or supervise Class C mechanics. Class A mechanics train and supervise mechanics and cleaners.
Requirements
- Class B: 4–7 years of diesel engine maintenance experience.
- Class A: 7 or more years of diesel engine maintenance experience.
- Supervisory skills and experience.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, hydraulic jacks, welding equipment, and testing instruments.
- Must have own tools.
- Valid driver's license.
- Basic computer skills.
Nice To Haves
- Class A: Proficiency with diagnostic devices such as DDEC readers, ATEC readers, SmarTire, schematics, and AIC (Freon) recovery and charging equipment.
- CDL with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.
- Willingness to obtain a CDL.
Responsibilities
- Repair, troubleshoot, and diagnose modern tour buses.
- Perform reconditioning, preventive maintenance, and routine maintenance.
- Conduct inspections and road tests.
- Complete warranty and repair documentation.
- Diagnose, inspect, install, disassemble, and clean components including brakes, suspension, tires, bearings, seals, radiators, water pumps, coolant hoses, alternators, regulators, steering components, oil and air filters, door assemblies, controls, seats, belts, electric motors, pneumatic valves, cables, and linkages.
- Respond to road calls.
- Perform basic welding and fabrication.
- Class B mechanics assist Class A mechanics with skilled work and train or supervise Class C mechanics.
- Class A mechanics train and supervise mechanics and cleaners.
