About The Position

A Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of elementary, middle, and high school students, including students with special needs, on regular routes, excursions and athletic trips.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - Class B with P2S endorsements if this license (if not currently held)
  • Pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical
  • Certified by Red Cross for CPR (within 90 days of employment)
  • Administer and maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures when passengers need first aid assistance
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety rules during bus operations (e.g., loading, unloading, street crossing) at bus stops and school drop-off locations.
  • Collaborate, interact with, and communicate with Terminal personnel (e.g., route changes, student issues), parents, community, passengers and students using a customer service oriented approach.
  • Comply with traffic laws and regulations, and DPS policy while operating vehicles.
  • Review route book and updates (e.g., manifest) prior to scheduled departure and maintain route book with current changes.
  • Conduct and complete pre-trip and post trip inspections (e.g., fluids, air brakes, engine) according to DPS guidelines to ensure that everything is in working order and all students have unloaded, and reports bus malfunctions or needed repairs to Maintenance.
  • Manage passenger and student behavior using student management skills to ensure safety.
  • Prepare, complete and submit daily (e.g., driver sheet) and special reports (e.g., accident, misconduct) ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Conduct, explain and perform evacuation drills (e.g., fire) during scheduled route, excursions and emergency situations.
