About The Position

This position involves coordinating and conducting vehicle maintenance, including inspections and routine upkeep. The role also requires maintaining an inventory of janitorial supplies, ensuring safety information is accessible, and properly managing cleaning chemicals. Responsibilities include tracking children transported, conducting safety checks, and serving as a liaison between families and program staff. The position also entails completing paperwork related to vehicle expenditures and maintenance, conducting bus evacuation drills, and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the center's interior and exterior grounds. Additionally, the role involves transporting children and parents, assisting with recruitment, and potentially traveling to other locations. The Bus Driver & Janitor will also perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a valid CDL Certification with passenger and school bus endorsements.
  • Ability to work irregular and/or flexible hours.
  • Be insurable in accordance with Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Must have a reliable car, valid driver’s license, and adequate insurance.
  • Must have a current DOT physical and possess a current DOT medical card or complete a DOT physical exam prior to transporting children.
  • Must submit to a pre-employment drug/alcohol test.
  • Must complete a TB test screening showing absence of Tuberculosis within 30 days of employment or sooner as required by local/state regulation.
  • Must complete approved SIDS & Shaken Baby Training prior to working with children.
  • Fire Extinguisher Training, Infant/Child CPR and First Aid upon hire or prior to transporting children.
  • Employment with UMOS is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check prior to starting.
  • Position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in transporting young children preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct maintenance of vehicles, including seasonal start-up inspections, routine maintenance, and final inspections.
  • Conduct daily walk-around inspections of vehicles before and after use, reporting problems and replenishing supplies.
  • Maintain an inventory of janitorial supplies and ensure "Right to Know" and MSDS information is posted.
  • Ensure chemicals are properly mixed, used, and stored according to the Hazard Communication Program and bloodborne pathogens policy.
  • Maintain a current list of children transported and take daily attendance for accountability and security.
  • Participate in child safety checks at the beginning and end of each route, ensuring children are secured and reporting safety concerns.
  • Serve as a liaison between families and program staff by reporting family information/concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Complete required paperwork, including tracking vehicle operating expenditures and maintenance repairs.
  • Conduct monthly bus evacuation drills with assistance, document results, and submit reports.
  • Maintain the center in a clean and sanitary condition according to cleaning schedules and procedures.
  • Maintain outside building grounds, including lawn cutting, trimming, painting, power washing, and snow removal.
  • Conduct daily inspections of playground and equipment, removing debris and documenting inspections.
  • Transport and assist with supervision of children and parents during meetings, field trips, and at health clinics.
  • Participate in training for serving children with disabilities or special needs.
  • Assist with recruitment plan activities, including recruiting children with disabilities.
  • Provide support or T/TA to other locations with some travel requirements.
  • Develop bus routes in coordination with Family Services and Center Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
