About The Position

SANY’s Syracuse Academy of Science Charter Elementary School is hiring a Building Substitute Teacher for grades K–4 for the 2026–2027 academic year. The role supports classroom preparation and instruction, works with small groups of students and provides intervention, and helps maintain classroom policies, student behavior, and school routines. The school welcomes experienced teachers and encourages novice teachers to apply.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Fingerprint clearance through the New York State Department of Education.
• Growth mindset and flexibility with change.
• Intrinsically motivated and compassionate.
• Strong conviction that all students can succeed.
• Ability to receive feedback and implement it immediately.
• Comfort with using data and analytics to help drive instruction and promote learning.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with a diverse student population or in an urban setting.
• Prior teaching experience; novice teachers are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and instruction.
• Work closely with small groups of students and provide intervention.
• Participate in weekly meetings and attend all school-wide events.
• Implement classroom policies and procedures.
• Lead students to and from specials and lunch.
• Effectively manage student behavior.
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
