The Building Automation Manager (BAS) provides leadership, vision, and technical expertise for a healthcare system comprising ten hospitals. The primary focus of this role is to monitor, operate, manage, and enhance each hospital’s existing BAS, serving as the primary subject matter expert in automated controls. This involves researching and understanding each hospital’s unique BAS, operating them both on-site and remotely, and providing support to on-site operators. The role requires in-depth research and field investigations to identify system challenges and vulnerabilities, devising mitigation strategies, and contributing to capital improvement scoping and project management. The Building Automation Manager also plays a crucial role in crisis and event management during outages, service disruptions, or facility-related events, investigating root causes using the BAS and developing strategies to retrieve necessary data for cause determination. The manager is responsible for identifying operational problems with major building equipment controls and implementing solutions to improve performance and reliability. The selected candidate must possess extensive experience in Building Automation Systems, including programming for major building equipment, and experience as a controls technician, including physical installation and service of electronic and pneumatic systems. The role requires integrating engineering principles of mechanical (HVAC), electrical, and electronic systems, as well as computer hardware and software, into the installation, operation, inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair of hospital mechanical equipment, all in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and MedStar Health’s standards.
