About The Position

The Builder builds, fabricates, assembles, and repairs checking fixtures, forms, templates, and related tooling used in manufacturing automotive parts and assemblies. The role involves interpreting blueprints, calculating unspecified dimensions, laying out designs on materials, operating shop equipment, assembling components, and checking tooling against specifications. The Builder also repairs or reworks tools, may prepare sketches and fabrication instructions for other workers, follows safety procedures, and documents and communicates work needs across shifts. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED, a certificate in Machine Tool Technology, or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequently standing, walking, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; frequently working from ladders and scaffolds; and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Close vision.

Responsibilities

• Examine blueprints for parts requiring templates, jigs, fixtures, or other tooling.
• Calculate unspecified dimensions and lay out designs on materials, establishing reference points and tooling holes with measuring instruments.
• Set up and operate machines and shop equipment to cut, shape, and finish materials to specified dimensions.
• Fit, align, and assemble tooling components, and measure assemblies for conformance to specifications using precision measuring and checking instruments.
• Join assembly components using bolts, pins, clamps, screws, rivets, or other methods.
• Repair or rework tools.
• Draw sketches and prepare detailed instructions for fabrication or machining by other workers, as needed.
• Maintain safe operations by following safety procedures and regulations.
• Document and communicate actions, irregularities, and continuing needs across work shifts.
• Accept ownership of assigned goals and explore opportunities to add value.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
