Breast Imaging Coordinator - Days

About The Position

Coordinates the procurement of prior imaging documentation for diagnostic breast exams and invasive breast exams as well as ensuring that complete orders are in the system. Serves as a technical resource; trains staff as needed. Ensures departmental policies and applicable regulatory standards are followed. Creates and maintains frequent communication and positive relationships with clinical team members. Prints orders and reports for all upcoming diagnostic imaging to include patients scheduled for mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI. Obtains corrected orders from the referring physician’s offices if correct orders are not available. A similar process will be followed for all invasive procedures. This includes localizations, stereotactic biopsies, ultrasound biopsies, and MRI biopsies. Calls all biopsy patients two days before their scheduled appointment time to give prep instructions and verify that the patient is not on blood thinners and answer any questions that the patient has related to the procedure. Works with the front desk staff to ensure that patient education is given for patients that arrive for a screening mammogram and indicate that they have breast symptoms. Also, attempts to obtain a diagnostic order in the situations where one is needed. Works with lead mammographer to assist in entering pathology results on biopsies that are performed here into the mammography reporting software. As time allows, fills in for staff mammographers when someone is on PTO and no PRN coverage is available. Performs breast ultrasound exams efficiently while maintaining diagnostic quality set forth in department procedure manual. Demonstrates knowledge of ultrasound equipment pertinent to patients’ needs. Provides mental and physical comfort to patient. Maintains accountability for a safe environment for patients and others. Displays a professional demeanor at all times. Assists with biopsies as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an approved school of Radiologic Technology and/or Sonography required.
  • Minimum of two years of mammography or sonography experience required.
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
