About The Position

The Brawley Student Advisor plays a vital role in supporting the recruitment, retention, and academic success of undergraduate students pursuing STEM degrees. Reporting to the Imperial Valley Campus Administrator and working closely with the Dean of Students, this position provides comprehensive advising to prospective and enrolled students, helping them navigate degree requirements, academic planning, and university resources from admission through graduation. The role also supports student success through outreach, data analysis, and collaboration with campus partners to enhance educational outcomes. Requirements

  • Experience working in a college or university admissions, advising, evaluations, registrar, or other student services-related office.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Experience working and interacting with a diverse professional workforce.
  • Experience presenting information to diverse audiences of varying size.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google docs.
  • Experience communicating information and creating reports using statistical analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in student advising is preferred.
  • Experience providing outreach services to students is preferred.
  • Familiar with CSU and SDSU general education and graduation requirements is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive academic advising to prospective and current students through individual appointments, group advising, and workshops.
  • Assist students with academic planning, course selection, policy interpretation, and referrals to campus resources that support retention and graduation.
  • Support recruitment, admission, progression, and graduation initiatives, including guidance for students transitioning from STEM majors when appropriate.
  • Collect, analyze, and report student success data, including graduation trends and other key metrics, to support institutional reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with college leadership, faculty, and campus partners to enhance advising services and promote student success.
