About The Position

This position provides complex and/or sensitive professional student service work, including individual and group academic advising, guidance, and program management to support the recruitment, admission, enrollment, and graduation of students in the Liberal Studies program. The role involves advising on major requirements and degree options, fostering intellectual and personal development, and assisting students in planning their educational careers. The incumbent will analyze needs, advise on policy and eligibility, and use planning, interviewing, and counseling techniques. This role also requires considerable administrative planning to develop creative solutions and collaborate with academic departments to improve student engagement and success. The incumbent will communicate with a diverse population of potential, current, and returning undergraduate and graduate majors, and compile advising-related reports and analyze data to determine program needs.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
  • Three years of full-time professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
  • A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Additional specialized experience which demonstrates the applicant has successfully applied the knowledge and abilities of a Student Services professional may also be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provides complex and/or sensitive professional student service work.
  • Offers individual and group academic advising, guidance, and program management.
  • Supports recruitment, admission, enrollment, and graduation of students.
  • Advises on major requirements and degree options.
  • Provides broader advising and counseling regarding career, learning, campus, and other issues.
  • Advises prospective, new, and continuing students on pathway options, procedures, and requirements for program admission and graduation.
  • Manages general operations and processes of all major options in conjunction with campus faculty and staff.
  • Reviews and evaluates records and transcripts.
  • Provides support with student registration and enrollment.
  • Monitors and maintains up-to-date major information, including database management.
  • Collaborates with other University and school district personnel to facilitate student progress.
  • Serves as liaison between students and University personnel regarding major requirements.
  • Fosters intellectual and personal development toward academic success and lifelong learning.
  • Assists and advises students in planning their educational career, learning skills for academic success, and utilizing campus resources.
  • Compiles advising-related reports and analyzes data to determine program needs.
  • Develops creative solutions that integrate approaches across organizational lines.
  • Recognizes specific program needs and collaborates with academic departments to improve and develop approaches for implementation for student engagement and success.
