About The Position

A Brake Press Operator 1st class must have the knowledge and understanding of a mechanical and computerized brake press machine. He/she must have the ability to read and understand blueprints. He/she should be familiar with the tools of the trade and their uses. He/she must comply with all safety procedures and guidelines, and comply with all company issued policies, procedures, rules and regulations. He/she must also have excellent work ethic including excellent attendance, punctuality, and the desire to complete designated work in a timely fashion.

Requirements

  • Experience with operating 50 ton and above brake press equipment.
  • At least 3-5 years experience in the operation of hydraulic or mechanical brake press equipment.
  • Ability and understanding to utilize all electronic functions of the brake press machine to their capacities, including all programming, data entering, and computerized functions of the machine.
  • Ability and knowledge to bend and shape a variety of shapes and sizes of material.
  • Certified in the operation of an overhead crane.
  • Self starter able to perform job duties with little or no supervision.
  • Strong communications skills and able to explain job status to supervisors and subordinates.
  • Ability to receive instructions and perform job duties in budgeted time frames.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and automated or semi-automated processes for increased productivity.
  • Ability to meet the work schedule.
  • Ability to maintain a clean work environment.
  • Possession of personal tools, and the knowledge for use of hand tools of the trade.
  • Correctable vision to 20/40.
  • Ability to pass the Ishihara test for color blindness.
  • Ability to read and understand safety symbols and colors (e.g., red, yellow, green).
  • Ability to pass a pulmonary function exam for positions requiring respiratory protection.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, squat, kneel, stoop, or climb stairs or a ladder.
  • Ability to perform overhead work with a full range of motion.
  • Not claustrophobic.
  • Good balance and the capability of standing on each foot for a period of 30 seconds or more.
  • No fear of heights.
  • Ability to work in an elevated environment (which could include heights of more than 50 feet) on scaffolding, from staging, planking, or a mechanical lift.
  • Understanding of the different welding processes used in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mechanical and computerized brake press machines.
  • Read and understand blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Utilize all electronic functions of the brake press machine to their capacities, including programming, data entering, and computerized functions.
  • Bend and shape a variety of shapes and sizes of material.
  • Layout from the bend data provided.
  • Identify and report any and all problems and discrepancies on bend data and communicate with the appropriate department (e.g., Engineering).
  • Identify any and all machine related problems or break downs and report them to the proper personnel.
  • Troubleshoot problems with machines.
  • Meet the work schedule.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Perform overhead work as necessary.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Maneuver through openings as small as 18 inches by 23 inches.
  • Move and crawl into awkward positions.
  • Work in static positions for extended periods of time.
  • Carry tools and/or equipment to their designated work area, potentially weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Report all accidents or injuries to their supervisor and the Environmental Safety and Health Department.
  • Report any and all damages to equipment, or broken and misused tools to their supervisor.
  • Work inside and outside of buildings or structures.
  • Work at a pace consistent with meeting company deadlines.
  • Complete any other task or assignment as directed by a supervisor.
