About The Position

Empower students across Virginia by leading Braille textbook production and ensuring accessible learning materials as the Braille Unit and Operations Manager. The Division of Services provides individualized rehabilitation services, educational consultation, technical assistance, and instruction that empower eligible individuals to achieve their desired levels of independence consistent with their abilities and informed choices. We are seeking a Braille Unit and Operations Manager to manage, coordinate, and provide Braille textbook transcriptions for blind, visually impaired, and deafblind children in Virginia. This position is responsible for reviewing and implementing Braille transcription policies, ensuring timely provision of Braille textbooks, and supporting the Director of the Library Resource Center (LRC) with fiscal functions. The role also includes providing fiscal and program support to ensure delivery of LRC services through procurement, invoice processing, contract maintenance, and Bank of America Works activities.

Requirements

  • Experience supervising employees, including mentoring and providing guidance.
  • Extensive computer experience, including proficiency with word processing software, databases, and other computer software systems.
  • Customer service experience, including helping individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience with inventory control and familiarity with inventory database systems.
  • Administrative Office Experience
  • Ability to learn and understand that Braille materials require transcription and that different Braille codes exist, along with proficiency in word processing and related software tools.
  • Ability to use software to enter book information and book requests.
  • Ability to work with transcribers and assign Braille transcription requests.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of NIMAC and organizations that assist in providing access to electronic books.
  • Working knowledge of Bank of America Works and SPCC card policies.
  • Experience using eVA and the procurement system.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management and operation of the Braille Textbook Unit.
  • Recommends modifications to existing procedures and KLAS and assists with updating the design of the order and inventory control system for tracking purposes on a monthly basis.
  • Manages fiscal procedures in coordination with the Director of the LRC.
  • Supports procurement, payment of invoices, contract maintenance, and related fiscal processes.
  • Corresponds with Teachers of the Visually Impaired to request print copies of textbooks, provide updates, and collect additional information as needed, completing requests within 72 hours of receipt from AIMVA.
  • Assists with organizing Braille unit textbooks at Villa Park upon their arrival during the transition from the Azalea Campus.
  • Completes duties and/or projects as assigned or as needed by the supervisor.
