About The Position

This position involves performing bottoming operations around the welt, including welt beating, shank and filler application, cork bed preparation, sole laying, sole pressing, and outsole stitching. The role requires attention to detail to ensure proper alignment and adhesion of the outsole. There is an opportunity for cross-training into inseaming and Goodyear stitching, which are areas of high demand and offer increased pay.

Requirements

• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to work with presses, adhesives, and heated equipment.
• Willingness to cross-train into inseaming.

Responsibilities

• Beat and level the welt after inseaming.
• Set the shank, lay the filler, and build the cork bed to the specification for the last.
• Cement, position, and press the outsole, maintaining alignment to the welt line and to the mate.
• Operate the outsole stitcher for styles requiring a stitched outsole.
• Inspect for sole alignment, gaps at the waist, and adhesion at the toe and heel.
• Cross-train toward inseaming and toward the Goodyear stitcher as capability allows.
