About The Position

This position is responsible for operating the Goodyear stitcher and supervising the inseaming, welt attach, sole lay, and outsole stitch sequence. The role involves ensuring the quality and consistency of the bottoming process, maintaining the machinery, and managing cross-training for the inseaming operation.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years in Goodyear welt bottoming.
  • Hands-on Goodyear stitcher operation experience.
  • Ability to set up, adjust, and maintain a Goodyear stitcher without outside service for routine work.
  • Ability to trace a welt defect back to inseam, stitch, or material.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the Goodyear stitcher.
  • Set stitch length, tension, wax temperature, and needle for the style and leather.
  • Supervise inseaming, welt attach, sole laying, and outsole stitching.
  • Verify welt seat, stitch line consistency, and channel closure on every lot before it goes to Making.
  • Control the shank, filler, and cork bed operation to the specification for the last and the style.
  • Own the cross-training plan for inseaming to ensure the department is not reliant on a single person for that operation.
  • Maintain the stitcher, including the wax pot, needle and awl condition, thread path, and perform daily preventive checks.
