About The Position

A Bookseller is an integral member of the Barnes & Noble bookselling team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping readers find suitable books and products. The role also contributes to attractive store presentation and efficient operations by unpacking and shelving deliveries, tidying displays, and operating registers with friendly, professional service. Booksellers are expected to demonstrate reliable attendance, flexibility when scheduling needs arise, a positive and energetic approach, consideration for colleagues, cheerful customer service, and willingness to learn. The role involves mastering operational skills such as using store technology, merchandising and maintaining product displays, serving customers at the register, receiving and shelving deliveries, locating products, assisting the café team when needed, and following loss-prevention and de-escalation procedures. The work involves prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and substantial walking. Booksellers may also support other stores in the wider Cluster when able and needed. As they gain experience, they build knowledge across books and other store categories, maintain sections and backstock, make recommendations, and support sales initiatives and new releases. The position offers a career path toward Senior Bookseller as skills develop. Employees must comply with company policies and procedures. Benefits depend on scheduled hours and location. Those scheduled for fewer than 20 hours per week receive an employee discount, EAP, and sick pay. Those scheduled for 20–29.99 hours receive those benefits plus paid time off, including paid maternity and parental leave, company-paid holidays, transit benefits, and a 401(k) with company match. Those scheduled for 30 or more hours receive those benefits plus medical, dental, and vision coverage, healthcare and dependent-care spending accounts, disability benefits, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement. Benefits are subject to plan terms and may vary by location or state regulations.
