A Barnes & Noble Bookseller is an integral member of the bookselling team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping readers find suitable titles and products. Booksellers also help maintain the store’s presentation and efficient operation by unpacking and shelving deliveries, tidying displays, and serving customers at the register. The role requires reliable attendance, flexibility in responding to store scheduling needs, a positive and energetic approach to work, consideration for colleagues, cheerful customer service, and a willingness to learn. Booksellers are trained in operational competencies including using store technology, merchandising and maintaining store presentation, operating registers, receiving and shelving deliveries, locating products using store resources, supporting the café when needed, and following loss-prevention and de-escalation procedures. As their knowledge develops, Booksellers maintain sections and backstock, recommend books, support sales objectives and new releases, and build expertise across books and other product categories such as educational toys and games, specialty games, hobbies and collectibles, music and movies, and newsstand. Booksellers may work at other stores when able and needed to support the wider Cluster. The role offers a path to Senior Bookseller as skills and experience grow.
