A Barnes & Noble Bookseller is an integral member of the bookstore team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping readers find suitable books and other products. The role also supports the store’s presentation and efficient operation by unpacking and shelving deliveries, maintaining displays, and serving customers at the register. Booksellers are expected to be cheerful, dependable, flexible, supportive of colleagues, willing to learn, and enthusiastic about bookselling. Booksellers learn and perform operational tasks using store technology, merchandising and maintaining product sections, operating registers, receiving and shelving deliveries, locating products with available tools, and assisting the café team when needed. The role also involves following loss-prevention procedures, recognizing potential theft or problematic behavior, and seeking support when appropriate. Booksellers may support other stores in the wider Cluster when able and needed. As their knowledge develops, Booksellers maintain sections and backstock, make customer recommendations, and support sales initiatives and new releases across books and other store categories, including toys, games, hobbies, collectibles, music, movies, and Newsstand products. Booksellers who demonstrate mastery of the role are expected to advance to Senior Bookseller. Employees must comply with company policies and procedures. The work involves prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking.
