About The Position

Targa Real Estate Services, a trusted name in property management for over 35 years, is a second-generation, family-owned business known for its commitment to integrity and excellence. We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper/Property Accountant to join our team. This role is essential in managing the financial operations of an assigned property management portfolio, ensuring accuracy in accounting, compliance with financial regulations, and timely reporting to property owners and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have experience in property accounting, a strong grasp of bookkeeping principles, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in property accounting or bookkeeping, preferably in the real estate industry.
  • Proficiency with property management software (e.g., Real Page, Yardi, AppFolio) and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and property management financial principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively independently and within a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred, but equivalent work experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records for a diverse portfolio of managed properties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash balances for each property.
  • Process tenant receipts and ensure accurate allocation to accounts.
  • Review and reconcile monthly financial statements and provide detailed reporting to property owners.
  • Manage and recover outstanding tenant debts post move–out by communicating with former tenants, negotiating payment plans, resolving billing disputes and maintaining accurate account records.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual operating budgets for properties.
  • Monitor variances between actual performance and budget projections, providing recommendations for adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, including property-specific and tax requirements.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Work closely with property managers, owners, and vendors to resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Support internal teams with financial insights and reporting needs.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records for each property.
