About The Position

The BCaBA will provide Therapeutic Consultation services under the supervision of a BCBA to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) enrolled in Virginia’s Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers. The BCaBA will assist with conducting behavioral assessments, implementing and monitoring behavior support plans (BSPs), providing staff training, and collecting and analyzing behavior data. All services must align with DBHDS and DMAS regulations and be delivered in person-centered, least restrictive ways to promote independence and quality of life. Success measures include high-fidelity implementation of BSPs, effective staff training, accurate documentation, improved behavioral outcomes, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of ABA principles and data collection techniques.
  • Understanding of DBHDS regulations for therapeutic consultation in Virginia.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to train and collaborate with DSPs and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to use data collection systems, electronic health records (EHR), and standard office software.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and under supervision.
  • Commitment to ethical practice and professional development under BACB guidelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or a related human services field.
  • Current BCaBA certification in good standing with the BACB.
  • Minimum 6 months of experience working with individuals with IDD.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Must be eligible to work in environments requiring background checks and clearances.
  • Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.
  • Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.

  • Experience with Medicaid waiver documentation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of Behavior Support Plans under the direction of a supervising BCBA.
  • Conduct and assist with Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
  • Provide modeling and training to direct support professionals and family members to ensure consistent implementation of support strategies.
  • Collect, graph, and analyze behavioral data to assess plan effectiveness.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings and assist in updating person-centered plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all service delivery in accordance with DBHDS and DMAS expectations.
  • Submit regular reports and progress summaries to the BCBA and appropriate team members.
  • Monitor individuals’ progress and suggest modifications to intervention strategies under BCBA supervision.
  • Assist with incident follow-up and provide on-site support when needed.
  • Ensure interventions are person-centered, trauma-informed, and consistent with positive behavior support principles.
