About The Position

This position involves heavy welding and fabrication to create or repair component parts for railroad maintenance equipment. The role requires the ability to operate various shop equipment and tools, possess competent welding skills with different processes and metals, and work from mechanical drawings. A current or recent welder certification is desirable. Journeyman Blacksmiths need a minimum of 3 years of related experience, though candidates with less experience may be considered for student blacksmith positions.

Requirements

  • High School/GED
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Ability to read and understand schematic drawings
  • Fully competent welding skills using mig, electric stick, and oxy-fuel processes with a variety of metals
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience (for Journeyman Blacksmiths)
  • Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications-both general and technical)
  • Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
  • Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)

Nice To Haves

  • Current or recent welder certification
  • Journeyman status

Responsibilities

  • Perform heavy welding and fabrication to make or repair component parts for railroad maintenance equipment.
  • Operate shop equipment including drill presses, punch, shear, bender, plate burning machine, and various power and hand tools.
  • Utilize competent welding skills using mig, electric stick, and oxy-fuel processes with a variety of metals.
  • Work from mechanical drawings or without them.
  • Work inside/outside and be on your feet daily.
  • Commit to working safely and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Work on and around heavy equipment.
