About The Position

We are seeking skilled machinists to support the repair and maintenance of heavy machinery used in railroad track operations. This role also involves the manufacturing and assembly of components for track maintenance equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in metal layout and fitting, with or without technical drawings.
  • Must qualify in SMAW and FCAW welding processes that include 2F, 3F and 4F positions.
  • Operate forklifts, light cranes, and car moving equipment.
  • Strong background in equipment maintenance, especially with vehicles, heavy equipment, power transmissions, and fluid power systems (hydraulic and pneumatic).
  • Understand oral and written communication
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Provide clear instructions and directions
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Mechanical experience

Nice To Haves

  • Journeyman status is preferred; however, candidates with less experience may be considered for student machinist positions.
  • Experience in fabrication, manufacturing, and mechanical system assembly is preferred.
  • Veterans and transitioning service members are encouraged to apply. Military roles that often transition well to this position (but not limited to): 2141, 91B, 91H and heavy equipment mechanics are encouraged to apply.
  • Proficient in operating manual, NC, and CNC milling machines and lathes.
  • Must have experience programming CNC machines.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety and operations
  • Perform a variety of mechanical tasks related to the repair of heavy machinery.
  • Manufacture parts and assemble components for track maintenance machines.
  • Operate hand tools and shop equipment including saws, drills, grinders, and more.
