About The Position

The Birth Registrar manages the birth certificate process for all live births at the facility and fetal deaths occurring on the unit, as required by the Code of Virginia. The registrar collects demographic and statistical data from worksheets and EPIC, researches charts for accuracy, and electronically submits information to Vital Records. Reports must meet NCHS/CDC requirements, and the registrar conducts monthly audits and releases them to VDH. The role supports the DSS program by informing unmarried parents about voluntary acknowledgment of paternity and their rights and responsibilities, interviewing them, helping complete paternity paperwork, and auditing forms for accuracy and notarization. Paternity documents are reported weekly to the Virginia Paternity Establishment Program. The registrar also enrolls medical certifiers as the facility user administrator for fetal deaths in compliance with VDH requirements and deadlines, and works with the decedent affairs department when a birth resulting in death occurs on the unit. The registrar verifies information with patients, ensures reports are accurate, and notarizes required documents. The position is scheduled Friday through Sunday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The posting also notes that shifts are primarily day shifts and cover weekdays, weekends, and some holidays.
