About The Position

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) at Penn State is seeking a Lecturer, Assistant Teaching Professor, or Associate Teaching Professor with expertise in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or related fields. This role is ideal for a dynamic, collaborative, and self-motivated educator passionate about teaching and mentoring future biotechnology scientists and entrepreneurs. The department is particularly interested in candidates with industry experience to strengthen the Biotechnology B.S. program. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work across disciplines, build partnerships with industry, academia, and the community, and develop innovative curricula. Responsibilities include teaching biotechnology and related courses, overseeing internships, mentoring graduate teaching assistants, teaching undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses, undergraduate advising, and departmental service. The position involves fall, spring, and summer duties, with summer dedicated to curriculum development. Professional development is supported and encouraged. The rank and term length will be determined by the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (for Lecturer) or Ph.D. (for Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor) in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field
  • Experience teaching at least one course as either the lead or assisting instructor
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve teaching excellence at both introductory and advanced undergraduate levels
  • Proven commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community in the practice and teaching of science

  • Professional experience in the biotechnology or biopharmaceutical industry
  • Experience or interest in curriculum development and innovative, evidence-based pedagogy, such as active learning or course-based undergraduate research experiences
