About The Position

Tread Athletics is seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Biomechanics Intern to support the daily operations of its biomechanics department. The role focuses on maintaining the accuracy and integrity of motion capture data, troubleshooting laboratory technology, coordinating data collection operations, and supporting coaches with biomechanical analysis and research. The intern will work with advanced motion capture technology, biomechanical data processing, and the practical application of sports science in a high-performance baseball development setting. The position is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week seasonal internship with a hybrid schedule. Work typically begins remotely at approximately 7:30 AM, with on-site responsibilities starting at the first scheduled bullpen and continuing throughout the daily bullpen schedule. Early morning availability is essential because of time-sensitive motion capture processing and daily reporting.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Sports Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly when working with large datasets and technical systems.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools and an ability to learn new software and technical workflows.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week and maintain early morning availability.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with biomechanics, human movement, or motion capture technology.
  • Interest in baseball performance, pitching mechanics, and data-driven athlete development.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily motion capture pitch audits to identify and resolve missing or invalid data.
  • Monitor automated processing logs and Qualisys reports to identify errors, omitted pitches, and incomplete sessions.
  • Troubleshoot and correct data processing errors within Qualisys Track Manager (QTM), reprocess affected sessions, and ensure accurate database integration.
  • Monitor reprocessing workflows to support timely and accurate regeneration of biomechanical reports.
  • Review and correct historical motion capture data to improve database accuracy and usability.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for initial troubleshooting of biomechanics laboratory technology and data collection systems.
  • Support the daily operation and functionality of motion capture equipment during scheduled bullpen sessions.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and escalate technical issues as needed to minimize interruptions to data collection.
  • Coordinate scheduling adjustments and shift coverage for biomechanics data collectors.
  • Support the training and readiness of new data collectors to ensure consistent data collection procedures.
  • Serve as a resource for coaching staff regarding biomechanical reports, data interpretation, and research-related questions.
  • Assist with the breakdown and interpretation of motion capture reports for high school, collegiate, and other designated athletes.
  • Coordinate smaller-scale research initiatives, independent analyses, and ad hoc projects requested by coaching staff.
  • Support communication and practical application of biomechanical findings to athlete development.
