About The Position

The Biology Student Laboratory Teaching Assistant (TA2) assists the instructor with the preparation and operation of laboratory classes, which may be conducted in-person, virtually, or in a hybrid format. The TA2 is responsible for providing instruction during laboratory sessions. Additionally, the TA2 may be tasked with assisting in the grading of laboratory assignments and quizzes, as well as performing other clerical duties associated with the laboratory class experience. Applicants must have successfully completed and passed the course they wish to TA for with a minimum grade of 'B'. The course instructor serves as the direct supervisor and holds the final hiring authority. The TA2 is expected to commit to the full duration of the laboratory section, including time for setup, resets, takedown, meetings with the instructor, grading, and other operational activities related to the lab and lecture.

Requirements

  • Must be a La Sierra University student currently enrolled in the Fall 2026 quarter.
  • Must have taken and passed BIOL185/L or BIOL474/L within the last 4 years with a grade of B or higher.
  • Alternatively, must have been a TA2 for either of these courses with full wet labs in the last 4 years.
  • Must be cleared and able to start work on or before September 21.
  • Must have taken and passed the course they would TA for with a grade of 'B' or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the instructor with preparation and operation of laboratory classes (in-person, virtual, or hybrid).
  • Provide instruction during laboratory sessions.
  • Assist with grading of laboratory assignments/quizzes.
  • Perform other clerical work related to the laboratory class experience.
  • Work the full duration of the laboratory section, including setup, resets, takedown, meetings, and grading.
