About The Position

MyOme is seeking an experienced and innovative bioinformatics scientist/biostatistician contractor to develop new diagnostic software. In this role, you will build on existing bioinformatics and statistical methods for identifying signals from limited material. This is a full-time contracting position for someone who seeks to combine their genomics knowledge with robust statistical techniques and implement their methods in streamlined bioinformatics workflows. This position will work across teams at MyOme and with our external partners.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in a quantitative field (statistics, genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology or a related field)
  • 3+ years experience in statistical analysis of NGS data
  • Coding fluency in R or Python
  • Experience planning and performing statistical analysis on genomics data
  • Experience working with next-generation sequencing data (exome, genome) and/or long-read technology (Nanopore, PacBio), bonus for experience working with challenging samples
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools including bcftools, samtools, bedtools, plink, etc.
  • Ability to quickly evaluate the methodology of open source tools and implement new tools
  • Familiarity with genomic databases such as UCSC, NCBI (dbSNP, Clinvar), Ensembl
  • Experience managing computational tasks in a cloud environment (AWS or GCP)
  • Solid understanding of the Linux environment and shell scripting
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to a diverse audience
  • Experience working within a hybrid remote team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Nextflow is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of statistical algorithms to garner genomic insights in novel diagnostic areas and implement them in production-ready pipelines
  • Contribute to the build out of an analysis platform that incorporates quality control status, analysis, visualization and process dashboards for genomic data
  • Work with cross-functional teams to manage, process, analyze and interpret genomic data
  • Help design and conduct clinical validation study plans and reports
  • Work with our Clinical Lab Director to make sure all algorithms comply with regulatory standards
  • Work and communicate regularly with external partners or collaborators on shared projects
  • Contribute to intellectual property or publications
