About The Position

Ophthalmology Surgery Center of Illinois (OSCI) is seeking a dependable and patient-focused Billing Representative to join their team. This position supports patients throughout the registration and billing process while serving as a liaison between patients, insurance companies, clinical staff, and the billing team. The ideal candidate is professional, organized, compassionate, and comfortable discussing insurance benefits and financial responsibilities with patients.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Strong customer-service and communication skills
• Ability to discuss financial matters with professionalism, empathy, and discretion
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment
• Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn new systems
• A dependable, collaborative approach and commitment to an excellent patient experience

Nice To Haves

• Previous medical office, patient registration, or healthcare billing experience preferred
• Ophthalmology or ambulatory surgery center experience is a plus
• Familiarity with insurance verification, patient collections, and medical terminology preferred

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients and provide a friendly, professional experience
• Register patients and verify demographic, insurance, and contact information
• Verify insurance eligibility, coverage, and benefits before scheduled procedures
• Communicate estimated financial responsibility to patients
• Collect copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and outstanding balances
• Process payments and provide accurate receipts
• Answer patient questions regarding statements, insurance, and account balances
• Review patient accounts for completeness and resolve missing or inaccurate information
• Communicate with insurance companies regarding benefits, authorizations, and claim status
• Assist with claims follow-up, denials, payment posting, and account resolution
• Coordinate with clinical staff and the billing team to resolve patient account concerns
• Answer incoming calls and direct inquiries appropriately
• Maintain accurate documentation in the patient-management system
• Protect patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements
• Perform additional administrative and patient-service duties as assigned
