Bilingual Jr. High Math Tutor
About The Position
SmartStart Education seeks a bilingual-Spanish math tutor to work with small groups of middle school students who need support with fundamental math skills. Groups include 1–4 students across grades 6–8, and the tutor works with each group several times throughout the week at a middle school in Manhattan, New York. Services take place either in the classroom (push-in) or outside the classroom (pull-out), so tutors must be comfortable with both settings. The tutor is responsible for taking daily attendance and monitoring student progress using a personal mobile phone. The position is scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 8:10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It is listed as beginning November 18, 2027, and ending May 6, 2027. The pay range is $30.60–$34.00 per hour. Applicants are encouraged to interview promptly to allow time for onboarding; the position may become unavailable if onboarding is not completed in time.
Requirements
- Bilingual Spanish proficiency is required.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in any field; anticipated graduation dates are not accepted.
- At least one year of teaching or tutoring experience in a school or another educational setting.
- Mastery of middle school math concepts and skills.
- Understanding of challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, including racial, socioeconomic, and cultural disparities.
- Genuine passion and commitment to fostering student success.
- Punctuality and adherence to established schedules.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
- Ability to commute to the designated location.
- Ability to navigate a school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.
Responsibilities
