About The Position

The Bilingual Dyslexia Assessor is responsible for the assessment of intelligence, educational functioning, and pertinent sociological variables relating to students with disabilities. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Trained in Corrective Reading program for Dyslexia
  • Bilingual

Nice To Haves

  • Three years’ experience as a successful classroom teacher
  • Educational Diagnostician certification or LSSP preferred

Responsibilities

  • Initiates and manages the section 504 process.
  • Verifies the eligibility of dyslexia students.
  • Adhere to mandates timeline.
  • Assist with auditing of eligibility records.
  • Maintains accurate and complete documentation of meetings including 504 paperwork.
  • Maintain accurate and complete State eligibility records.
  • Conduct initial evaluation and coordinate all additional assessment as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and complete IEP.
  • Determine readiness for termination of the dyslexia program.
  • Provide copy of the student’s plan to parent and campus folder and state folders in a timely fashion.
  • Collaborate with IDEA evaluation staff in the development of the Individual Educational Plans & 504 plans.
  • Provides consultation to teachers concerning prevention and/or intervention strategies relating to learning difficulties.
  • Helps teachers develop appropriate expectations for students.
  • Serves as parent contact for dyslexia evaluations
  • Provide expertise in district, state and federal laws and regulations to district campuses and staff.
  • Participates in Professional Learning Community.
  • Provide expertise involving appraisal diagnosis, educational planning, and other topics related to exceptional children.
  • Serves as resource for building principals, faculty and district staff in testing, interpreting tests and placing students for Dyslexia services.
  • Serves as a resource for regular and special education personnel.
  • Participate in campus based RTI process.
  • Assists in the determination, continuous evaluation, and revision of the special education program.
  • Review initial referral paperwork for completion.
  • Stays current with evaluation processes, including theoretical and statistical concepts of standardized tests, informal test procedures, observation techniques and competency level systems.
  • Becomes familiar with the District’s dyslexia curriculum.
  • Complies with all TEA Audit mandates.
  • Attend dyslexia & assessment department meetings.
  • Member of campus RTI team.
