The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), seeks an experienced Bilingual Communications Specialist & Translator for its office in Toronto, Ontario. This role provides strategic and tactical communications support for the Association, International Committees, and Master Executive Councils (MECs) to develop effective pilot communications plans and offer professional support in all communication areas. The specialist will lead and advise pilot groups on developing, packaging, placing, and timing communications to advance goals, execute programs and campaigns for collective bargaining and advocacy for Air Canada and other Canadian pilot groups, and provide tactical support in media relations, social media, paid digital media, community/stakeholder relations, and outreach. The role requires strong Quebecois French and English bilingual, writing, problem-solving, consensus-building, and interpersonal skills, along with expertise in digital media to translate complex issues into clear communications for Canadian and U.S. audiences. Experience with social media (organic and paid), media relations, advertising, video, email, and web support is necessary. Success requires advanced Quebecois French, cultural nuance awareness, and the ability to engage Quebeckers through various communication channels. The specialist will identify new methods for delivering messages, determine optimal media vehicles, adapt writing styles for different platforms, coordinate multiple media projects, and anticipate the need for new video and motion graphic messaging. They will also translate aviation-specific legal, economic, and safety data into visual narratives for multimedia content.
