About The Position

The Bilingual Aide works under the direct supervision of the classroom Teacher to assist children, families, and staff by providing bilingual learning opportunities to children with limited English proficiency. The role facilitates communication between home and school, both verbally and in writing, and supports relationship-building and learning and development in the classroom.

Requirements

• Ability to write reports and correspondence and read and interpret documents in both English and the family’s primary language.
• Ability to speak effectively to groups of children, parents, staff, and community members in English and the family’s primary language.
• Valid California driver’s license and clean DMV record.
• Must pass a criminal background check.
• Must complete a pre-employment strength assessment and TB test.
• Must have up-to-date records of pertussis, measles, and influenza vaccinations.

Responsibilities

• Partner with classroom teachers to support learning and development by interpreting for children with limited English proficiency as needed.
• Assist staff in recruiting and enrolling families with limited English proficiency.
• Assist social service staff with communication for families with limited English proficiency, interpreting at meetings and conferences as needed.
• Assist center staff with translating basic written information for families as needed.
• Model appropriate behavior and interact positively, courteously, and in a friendly manner with children and families to build responsive relationships.
• Assist with child screenings and assessments by interpreting information as needed.
• Support special events or activities for families with limited English proficiency.
