About The Position

We are seeking a Benefits Coordinator to help us with the day-to-day administration of employee and retiree benefit programs, including health and welfare plans and retirement-related benefits. This position serves as a primary point of contact for employees and retirees, providing guidance and support on benefit eligibility, enrollment, claims, and plan provisions. The Benefits Coordinator delivers exceptional customer service while ensuring benefit transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with applicable plan provisions and regulations.

Requirements

  • Possess an Associate’s Degree and 2+ year of experience in benefits administration. In lieu of degree, 3+ years of benefits administration experience.
  • Proven experience providing exceptional customer service support in a collaborative/team environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess strong organization skills, ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Hold US Citizenship or permanent resident status, as required to access APL’s facilities and networks, subject to applicable laws.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Formal benefits training such as CEBS classes or workshops
  • Any HRIS system knowledge
  • Working knowledge of health and welfare benefit plans and benefits administration processes
  • Familiarity with applicable federal regulations, including COBRA, HIPPA, ACA and Section 125 plans

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for new hire inquiries related to health and welfare benefits
  • Provide customer service and benefits support to active employees and retirees via phone, email, and in person
  • Process benefit enrollments, life event changes, and terminations in accordance with plan provisions and regulatory requirements
  • Review and approve benefit changes resulting from qualified life events
  • Maintain accurate employee benefit records and documentation
  • Assist with employee benefit communications and educational materials
  • Participate in benefit fairs, new hire orientations, employee meetings, and other informational sessions
  • Partner with internal departments and benefit vendors to resolve eligibility, enrollment, and claims-related issues
  • Support annual Open Enrollment activities
  • Assist with audits, reporting, and other special projects
  • Maintain employee benefit files, including filing, record retention, and document purging in accordance with established procedures
