About The Position

The Department of Economic Security (DES) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join their team as an Eligibility Interviewer. This role involves determining eligibility for Arizonans needing Nutrition Assistance, Medical Assistance, and/or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, possesses strong decision-making skills, can work independently and multitask in a fast-paced call center environment, and can provide quality interaction and communication with clients. This is a SkillBridge internship position, allowing transitioning service members to gain valuable experience.

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete a minimum of 8 weeks and up to a maximum of 6 months SkillBridge internship.
  • Must be separating from the Military.
  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty.
  • Knowledge in customer service practices.
  • Knowledge in computer navigation of various software applications, including but not limited to Google Suite or Microsoft.
  • Skills in professional written and verbal communication.
  • Skills in being customer friendly, empathetic and patient.
  • Skills in computer experience; typing, navigating and using multiple computer systems on multiple screens while talking to the client by phone.
  • Core math skills, including but not limited to, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Ability to evaluate and make appropriate decisions (or determinations).
  • Ability to access, maintain, review and interpret information.
  • Ability to work independently as well as interacting with others on a team.
  • Ability to review and explain eligibility requirements with applicants of diverse backgrounds and guide them to resources as part of the interview process.
  • Successfully pass background and reference checks.
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience performing eligibility reviews or one (1) year of customer service experience.
  • A High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Working in a call center environment, assisting individuals and families by phone.
  • Attending paid classroom training with on-the-job training.
  • Providing excellent customer service by phone to individuals and families facing challenging and personal situations.
  • Collecting and gathering information to conduct interviews to make eligibility determinations for Medical Assistance, Nutrition Assistance, and Cash Assistance.
  • Completing the application and interview process by entering data on a computer and accessing multiple screens while talking to individuals and families by phone.
  • Adhering to agency standards in a high-volume call center, measured by metrics, attendance, service levels, accuracy, and timeliness.
