Bench Validation and Characterization Manager

GlobalFoundries•Richardson, TX
•$171,000 - $296,000

About The Position

GlobalFoundries is hiring a senior engineering leader to lead a team of bench characterization engineers supporting new product development. The role combines people leadership with hands-on technical contribution, with a balanced focus on both. The manager will coordinate and collaborate closely with design, software/firmware, product/test engineering, and program management teams, and may engage with external customer teams to deliver characterization results that support project goals. The position leads silicon bring-up, validation, and characterization for complex SoCs; oversees analog, mixed-signal, and RF subsystem characterization; and drives debug and root-cause analysis of silicon issues. It also owns bench validation planning and execution, lab infrastructure and operations, automated testing and data analysis, and correlation between simulation, bench results, and ATE production-test data. The role supports qualification, customer engagements, and production release activities, and communicates team progress, risks, and priorities to engineering leadership.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, with 10+ years of work experience in semiconductor characterization, bench measurements, or related engineering work.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or managing engineers, or demonstrated readiness to grow into people leadership.
  • Experience using benchtop equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, signal generators, AWGs, SMUs, pattern generators, VNAs, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Programming experience developing test code and automation using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or equivalent.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and ability to represent the team to senior stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with RF/mmWave, radar, wireless, networking, or high-speed communication products.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to innovate and execute on solutions that matter and navigate ambiguity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead silicon bring-up, validation, and characterization activities for complex SoCs.
  • Manage and develop a team of validation engineers and lab technicians.
  • Define validation plans and drive execution across functionality, performance, power, and reliability.
  • Lead debug and root-cause analysis of silicon issues with Design, Product Engineering, DFT, and Test Engineering teams.
  • Oversee characterization of analog, mixed-signal, and RF subsystems and IPs across digital, analog, and RF product lines.
  • Code bench test plans and bench characterization board/socket hardware designs, including compliance with parasitics requirements, stack-up, grounding, shielding, power integrity, and component placement.
  • Develop and deploy automated validation and data-analysis solutions using Python, MATLAB, or equivalent tools.
  • Own lab infrastructure, equipment planning, calibration, safety, and operational excellence.
  • Drive correlation between simulation, bench results, and ATE production-test data.
  • Review characterization data, correlate findings to system-level parameters, and ensure reports are ready for stakeholder review.
  • Support qualification, customer engagements, and production-release activities.
  • Communicate team progress, risks, and priorities to engineering leadership.
