About The Position

A Float Behaviour Therapist (BI) is primarily responsible for implementing Applied Behavior Analysis interventions for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder or other learning and development delays and/or maladaptive behaviour. The role of the Float BT is to execute intervention plans developed and supervised by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA) to clients in care of Monarch House. The Float BT may work within an interdisciplinary team to support skill acquisition and/or decrease maladaptive behaviors while providing an engaging and positive client experience in a fast paced and frequently changing environment. The Float BT is primarily responsible for always ensuring adequate client coverage for reasons such as but not limited to absent instructor therapists, conflicts due to family or team meetings, training workshops, lunch coverage and general staff shortages.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1000 hours of Behaviour Interventionist experience doing ABA, working with a range of children including those who are non-verbal, and individuals with challenging behaviour
  • Education and demonstrated ability in ethical and professional practice
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Experience working with clients who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children and youth with complex needs and/or developmental disabilities will be considered an asset
  • Enrollment in or degree from a post-secondary program of Psychology, Educational Psychology, Special Education, or another related field is an asset
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder specific coursework, training or workshops an asset
  • Experience working with clients who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementing treatment plans based on best practices.
  • Uses systematic methods and behavioural strategies to support client in changing their behaviour.
  • Contributes to the development of ABA programs established by the BCBA to teach and reinforce a variety of skills for children and youth in a 1:1 and/or small group setting.
  • Assists in conducting baseline measurements and other indirect measures as instructed by the Lead Therapist/ BCaBA/BCBA.
  • Understand the functions of behavior and responds appropriately and safely when situations arise.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and/or routine and provide creative solutions.
  • Responsible for creating a positive and engaging environment for the client.
  • Responsible for tracking client progress through the collection of data and graphing while keeping clients engaged.
  • Responsible to complete incident report in Microsoft Teams as per regional requirements within 24 hours of an incident.
  • Attend regular client-centered team meetings to review client progress, problem solve, and inform of potential changes.
  • Provide communication updates regarding unusual or different behavior in an organized, professional, positive, and respectful manner to caregivers and BCBA.
