About The Position

As a Behaviour Interventionist (BI) at Monarch House, your primary responsibility is implementing programs designed and supervised by a senior clinical team (of speech pathologists, Board-Certified Behavior Analysts® BCBAs, Occupational therapists, and physical therapists) to clients receiving services from Monarch House. You will work within an interdisciplinary team to support skill acquisition and/or decrease maladaptive behaviors while providing an engaging and positive client experience in a fast-paced and frequently changing environment. This role is community-based in the NE and Airdrie area.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years experience working with children and youth with complex needs and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Pursuing or completed education in Psychology, Speech or linguistics, occupational therapy or kinesiology.
  • Education and demonstrated ability in ethical and professional practice.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 6 months.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • A valid driver's license (Class 5) and reliable vehicle for daily use.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1 year experience working in client homes is a plus.
  • Enrollment in or degree from a post-secondary program of Psychology, Educational Psychology, Special Education or another related field is an asset.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder specific coursework, training or workshops an asset.
  • Experience working with clients who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing programs based on best practices.
  • Using systematic methods and behavioural strategies to support clients in changing their behaviour.
  • Contributing to the development of programs established by the clinical team to teach and reinforce a variety of skills for children and youth in a 1:1 and/or small group setting.
  • Understanding the functions of behavior and responding appropriately and safely when situations arise.
  • Adhering to all clinical training, procedures, and protocols.
  • Adapting to changing conditions and/or routine and providing creative solutions.
  • Creating a positive and engaging environment for the client.
  • Supporting clients with personal care tasks such as dressing, toileting, and eating.
  • Maintaining the well-being and safety of clients.
