About The Position

FIREFLY is seeking a full-time Positive Behaviour Interventionist to work in our Kenora FIREFLY location. This role involves working directly with children/youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders or differences. The interventionist will provide evidence-based interventions as outlined in the child/youth’s Behaviour Plan and may also offer parent-direct services. Services are delivered across various settings including homes, schools, and community spaces, requiring strong communication, collaboration, and independence skills. The approach is family-centred, viewing each family as a partner in supporting the child/youth. The role operates under clinical direction and coaching from a Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA) or Psychological Associate, with administrative direction from the Clinical Manager. FIREFLY is a multi-service, non-profit organization in Northwestern Ontario, designated as a Children’s Treatment Centre, dedicated to supporting families, children, and youth through comprehensive services. They offer services in various locations, including centre-based, community (fly-in and drive-in), schools, pre-school, and child care settings, fostering strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and community partners. FIREFLY collaborates with local First Nation organizations and is committed to building cultural safety.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of typical and atypical child development.
  • Experience in early childhood development and an interest in Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Enjoys working with children and youth, is creative, and has great play skills.
  • Experience working with children who may present with challenging behaviours.
  • Exceptional communication and engagement skills and experience with children and youth with ASD and their families.
  • Strong knowledge of the community and demonstrates the ability and willingness to collaborate with community partners.
  • Flexibility and creativity to deliver in-home, school and/or community supports related to the child’s success across environments.
  • Reliable in sharing the right information at the right time with the right people (which includes risk management, up to date documenting in the child/youth’s electronic record, and data for the purpose of service delivery and funder accountabilities).
  • Ability to travel between service delivery sites in both urban and rural settings.
  • You want to work with children, youth and their families.
  • You want to share your skills, talents and hobbies with an amazing team and have ideas of how to incorporate them into bettering the service we provide to our clients.
  • You know every child and youth has hidden strengths that you are craving to help expose and build.
  • You value the concept of teamwork but you’re able to work independently.

  • You generally don’t deal with a lot of conflict but when it arises you are able to mediate and problem solve.
  • You have a valid driver’s license and are interested in exploring the region by car to deliver service.
  • You have a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen.
  • You are flexible and appreciate a changing caseload and schedule.
  • Ability to manage a reasonable workload; effective priority-setting and follow-up.
  • Role model the vision and values of the Agency.
  • Value the concept of teamwork and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to deal with conflict, mediate and problem solve.
  • Quality of work to meet or exceed Agency specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and implement recommendations from behaviour programs established by the supervising RBA.
  • Clearly communicate in written and verbal means to the supervising RBA to keep them informed of client progress and development.
  • Maintain documentation and data records in accordance with agency policy and procedure to support the client's behaviour plan.
  • Provide an individualized approach to engaging families, staff, and community partners based on cultural/social/emotional needs.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work patterns and travel to meet client/agency needs.
  • Support clients/families in areas such as transitioning between activities, functional routines, communication, play and social interactions, learning and attention, and behavioral self-management.
  • Identify challenges, gaps, or barriers and productively engage in solution-based discussions with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Accept and make changes in support of agency initiatives.
  • Operate from a group perspective, demonstrating respect for team and agency processes.
  • Recognize the value of diversity within the workplace and strive to contribute to a safe, healthy, and respectful work environment.
  • Deal proactively with interpersonal or personal matters that could affect own performance or the performance of the team.
  • Fulfill responsibility for agreements made in collaborative arrangements or team meetings.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the scope of work and seek out support and resources through supervisors as needed.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with program guidelines, legislation, and standards of the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board and the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
  • Meet attendance, punctuality, and accountability standards.
