About The Position

Richmond Community Services is seeking a Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) to join their clinical team in Westchester County. This role focuses on working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them build skills, navigate challenges, strengthen relationships, and achieve greater independence. The position is hands-on, requiring the specialist to be both a clinician and a coach, translating behavioral science into practical strategies for staff and individuals. Unlike desk-bound roles, this position involves being present in programs, with teams, and alongside the people supported, allowing for direct observation of recommendations in action and measurement of their impact.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, or a related field.
  • Post-master's experience in a behavioral or clinical setting.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex behavioral concepts in clear, practical language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities strongly preferred.
  • Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA) at the master's level preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee individualized Behavior Support Plans that promote meaningful outcomes and quality of life.
  • Analyze behavioral data and turn it into practical clinical recommendations.
  • Observe individuals in their residential environments and identify opportunities to strengthen supports.
  • Coach and mentor Direct Support Professionals so they feel confident implementing behavioral strategies.
  • Partner with program leaders and interdisciplinary teams to create consistent, effective supports.
  • Respond thoughtfully to behavioral challenges and help teams understand the why behind the behavior.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives that strengthen behavioral services across the organization.
  • Champion dignity, respect, choice, and person-centered care in everything you do.
