Behavioral Health Technician PT DAYS
About The Position
The Behavioral Health Technician conducts functional analyses of patient behavior, participates as a member of the treatment team, contributes to the master treatment plan, and implements appropriate interventions. The role includes providing individual and group psychoeducation, leisure activities, life-skills training and coaching, and monitoring the safety of patients and the unit. The technician observes and monitors patients according to applicable standards and procedures, documents observations and other required information, reports concerns and changes in patient condition, and communicates with nursing staff and the interdisciplinary team. The role also supports patient orientation, transport, activities of daily living, admission and discharge procedures, group programming, coping skills, and responses to behavioral emergencies. Work must be consistent with the master treatment plan and unit policies.
Requirements
- BCLS (Basic Life Support) certification upon hire.
- NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) certification, or completion of the facility-specified current program within the required time frame.
- At least 1 year of experience working in a psychiatric inpatient setting.
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Good and regular attendance.
- Ability to adjust to changes professionally.
- Flexibility around working hours to meet patient and unit needs.
- Ability to intervene quickly in emergencies to move patients away from danger and maintain patient, staff, and personal safety.
- Ability to participate in a physical escort, hold, or restraint to minimize injury risk to patients or staff.
- Ability to adhere to scheduled hours and plan absences in advance.

- High school diploma or equivalent, including education equivalent to completion of secondary school, or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Maintain professional development, including BLS and de-escalation training and certification.
- Observe and monitor patients according to patient-monitoring standards, policies, and procedures.
- Complete monitoring and documentation tasks such as vital signs, weight logs, intake and output, dietary intake, Q15-minute behavioral round sheets, admission checklists, and progress or milieu notes.
- Report patient complaints, concerns, and changes in condition to the assigned nurse in a timely manner.
- Provide verbal and written updates to nursing staff, including ongoing reports and end-of-shift reports.
- Support patient care, unit orientation and transport, de-escalation, coping-skills instruction, conflict resolution, problem solving, activities of daily living, admission and discharge procedures, responses to codes, and life coaching.
- Evaluate patient and family responses to interventions and communicate observations to the assigned nurse.
- Co-lead patient psychoeducational groups and provide care consistent with the master treatment plan.
- Help ensure scheduled active treatment occurs and encourage patient participation in groups and programming.
- Provide timely and accurate information about patient behavior and progress to the interdisciplinary team.
- Serve in a supervisory or lead role when requested.
- Conduct individual life coaching, psychoeducation, and supportive counseling in accordance with treatment plan goals.
- Lead or co-lead group sessions focused on leisure skills, life skills, and psychoeducation.
- Lead or actively participate in managing acute behavioral episodes using approved de-escalation techniques.
- Maintain scheduled hours and plan absences in advance to support unit staffing and safety.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
