The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) is a vital member of an interdisciplinary care team, helping create a safe, secure, welcoming, and therapeutic environment. The role involves frequent direct interaction with individuals from admission through discharge in a high-acuity, fast-paced setting. The BHS provides compassionate, respectful support to people experiencing acute behavioral health symptoms, substance use concerns, homelessness, and other complex needs. The position supports admissions, transfers, and discharges; maintains required observations; assists with daily needs; recognizes and communicates changes in behavior or condition; and responds to safety concerns and emergencies. The BHS works collaboratively with nurses, providers, clinicians, peer and recovery support professionals, and other team members. Success requires compassion, sound judgment, situational awareness, teamwork, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure. The role also includes accurate and timely electronic health record documentation, maintaining confidentiality and following clinical, safety, security, and infection-prevention procedures, completing required training and competencies, and helping maintain a clean, organized, and therapeutic facility. The position requires the ability to perform physical interventions when trained, lift or move individuals or equipment as needed, and tolerate prolonged walking and standing. Applicants must pass required background checks, physical, TB, and drug screening, and meet the company’s vaccination policy or qualify for an exemption before their start date.
