Behavioral Health Counselor I - Pediatric Crisis Residential Program
About The Position
The Munson Behavioral Health Counselor 1 is a member of the behavioral health team and works with patients who experience substance use and / or mental health disorders. The Behavioral Health Counselor 1 is responsible for supporting patients, coordinating patient care or wider behavioral health initiatives, and representing behavioral health throughout the hospital and wider community. This role is part of the Munson Pediatric Crisis Residential Program, a six-bed, short-term residential treatment program for youth ages 8–17 experiencing a behavioral health crisis. The program provides 24/7, trauma-informed care in a safe, home-like environment as an alternative to inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. During their typical 7–14 day stay, residents receive individualized treatment—including therapy, medication management, skill-building, and family involvement—to stabilize their mental health and prepare for a successful return home, school, and community. Staff are part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care that helps youth and families navigate crises and build a foundation for long-term recovery.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- For outpatient behavioral health – requires either the CADC, CAADC, (Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor or Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor) OR the ability to obtain the credential and meet all requirements within the 3 year time frame.
- BLS required - can be obtained within 60 days of hire
- Munson Healthcare requires all employees be vaccinated or have lab confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella.
- MHC also requires all employees to receive a flu vaccine during the flu season in the year that they are hired and annually thereafter, or receive an approved medical or religious exemption.
