About The Position

The Behavior Technician Supervisor (BTS) serves as a crucial link between Behavior Support Technicians (BSTs), individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and the daily operations of Individual Supported Living (ISL). This role involves encouraging and mentoring both individuals and BSTs to help them reach their full potential. The BTS provides training and support across all aspects of the individuals' lives, as well as to BSTs working in their assigned clients' homes (ISL). This includes training and support for daily life skills such as cooking, cleaning, hygiene, grocery shopping, food preparation, medication administration, behavioral care, community participation, and management of personal funds. Additionally, the BTS assists the Program Supervisor in implementing personal plans, communicating directives, maintaining records, and contributing to a therapeutic environment. Requirements

  • Diploma from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Six months experience providing direct care, treatment, and habilitation in the human service field.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work with and respect persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to work varied and flexible hours, to accept and adapt to changes in assignments, methods, policies, etc.
  • Knowledge of basic non-professional techniques used in assisting in the care, treatment and habilitative programming for individuals with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of advanced behavior support techniques.
  • Knowledge of the principles of management and supervision of personnel.
  • Ability to supervise, review and evaluate the work of assigned personnel.
  • Ability to administer medications to individuals served, in accordance with agency policies and procedures, after certification by the State of Missouri and facility officials.
  • Ability to implement and supervise individual and group habilitation programs designed to improve each individual served self help skills, economic self sufficiency, socialization, leisure skills, mobility, communication and personal health.
  • Ability to accurately report, record observations, and supervise these activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs., and pull and push items.
  • Ability to maintain a record of punctuality and attendance.
  • Ability to be organized and efficient to complete all listed duties in a timely manner.
  • Ability to follow the chain of command and be able to ask for help when needed.
  • A licensed and insured driver.
  • Ability to obtain a class E drivers license if driving persons served in an Arc vehicle.
  • Successfully complete a course in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid.
  • Successfully complete a 16 hours course in Medication Administration.
  • Successfully complete a 10 course in MANDT System Workshop.
  • Successfully complete a course in OSHA regulations on Health and Safety.
  • Successfully complete a course in Abuse & Neglect.
  • Successfully complete a course in Electronic Documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing direct care, treatment and habilitation to individuals who have intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and/or behavior disorders is preferred.
  • Experience in the providing assistance in the care, treatment and habilitation to individuals who have intellectual disabilities and other developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Other trainings per department or per home location may be required, refer to policy 8.106 for specific requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage and mentor individuals and Behavior Support Technicians.
  • Support individuals in maximizing their full potential.
  • Provide training and support for daily life skills including cooking, cleaning, hygiene, purchasing of groceries, food preparation, medication administration, behavioral care, community participation, and management of personal funds.
  • Assist the Program Supervisor in implementing personal plans (the story of the individual you’re serving including their history, goals, and achievements).
  • Implement and communicate directives.
  • Maintain necessary records and reports.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a therapeutic environment.
  • Assist with the purchasing of groceries and supplies.
  • Assist in the preparation and training in food preparation in compliance with dietary needs.
  • Supervise meal activities and assist individuals served as necessary.
  • Provide support to persons served in maintaining a safe and clean environment in their home and training to individuals served in dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, house cleaning, laundry, and other activities of daily living.
  • Ensure the residential setting is safe and clean.
  • Administer medications to individuals served in accordance with agency policies and procedures, after certification by Missouri State and Arc officials.
  • Assist with Physicians' appointments as assigned; assuring that documentation is correct.
  • Administer oral, rectal, vaginal, optic, ophthalmic, nasal, and topical medications, after certification by The Arc of the Ozarks and Missouri State officials.
  • Take appropriate action in case of fire and/or disaster or other urgent / emergency.
  • Create solutions for crisis situations according to Arc policy and crisis prevention and intervention training.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies in the home and ordering / notifying appropriate parties of needed items.
  • Implement outcomes and strategies of individual personal plans under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, or other staff members.
  • Observe, report and record changes in the physical condition, behavioral response, and emotional status of each individual served and progress on outcomes listed in the personal plan.
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of necessary records and reports.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new employees; demonstrating direct support activities to staff.
  • Encourage the development and maintenance of a safe environment for persons served in a residential setting including developing plans for evacuation assistance in case of emergency, using the on-call pager; and training in securing emergency services such as the police, the fire department, and an ambulance.
  • Complete medical/injury incident and behavioral reports when necessary.
  • Provide assistance and planning to individuals served in becoming as mobile in their community environment as possible and assist the individuals’ requiring supports in participating in varied meaningful vocational, domestic, and leisure activities in the community of their choosing.
  • Support persons served in participating in varied meaningful vocational, domestic, and leisure activities in the community of their choosing.
  • Assist the Program Supervisor or other management staff in the management and supervision of a residential setting; makes frequent checks in the assigned area, schedules staff in accordance with the team budget; makes work assignments, inspects and evaluates the work of subordinates, reviews and instructs personnel in the care, treatment and habilitation of persons served.
  • Complete or supervise all monthly filing; monthly summary sheets, MAR’s, Nurse consultations, Monthly Budgets, Accident/Injury Reports, Behavior Incident Reports.
  • In the absence of the Program Supervisor or other management staff, supervise direct support staff and evaluate performance and quality standards in accordance with established agency policy.
  • Circulate and implement directives of Program Supervisor or other management staff and report rule infractions, complaints from individual’s served/parents/ guardians/employees, and related incidents to Program Supervisor or other management staff in a timely manner.
